Happily Never After
“…and they lived happily ever after!” masayang itiniklop ni Charlize ang kanyang paboritong fairytale book na madalas na basahin sa kanya ng kanyang ina noong nabubuhay pa ito. Dinala pa nya sa kanyang dibdib ang aklat at tumingala sa kalangitan. “I missed you mom…” bulong nya sa hangin.
“Who lived happily ever after?” tanong ng isang boses. Takang binigyan ni Charlize ng matalim na tingin ang batang lalakeng basta nalang sumalo sa kanya sa pagkakaupo sa kanyang picnic carpet.
This is the first time na makita nya ito dito sa kanilang bahay, marahil ay bisita ito ng kanyang ama.
“Cinderella and Prince Stefan…” nakataas babang sabi nya. Pinagtawanan sya ng lalake.
Napahawak si Charlize sa dibdib dahil pumitik iyon na ramdam nyang parang gusto yatang kumawala sa kinalalagyan nito.
“Kasinungalingan! Baka naman happily never after?” sambit nito at prente pang humiga sa kanyang kandungan. “Dito muna ako ha? Pang matatanda kasi ang usapan sa loob” pumikit ito at anyong matutulog.
“Bakit happily never after?” wala sa loob na tanong nya. Ang totoo ay nastarstruck sa presence nito na hindi naman maipaliwanag ng mura nyang pag-iisip kung bakit.
Nagmulat ito ng mga mata at nakataas ang kilay na pinagmasdan ang hitsura nya. “You’re 8? 9 or 10?” tanong nito.
“10”
Ngumiti ito, “No wonder, wag mo nang isipin ang sinabi ko kanina. Ayokong sirain ang imahinasyon mo.” Bumangon ito at tinitigan sya sa mga mata, “Ang ganda mo naman…pag dalaga ka na ha promise mo magiging girlfriend kita”
Para syang nahihipnotismo sa mga titig nito at tumango sya. “Promise”
Bumangon ito, “You’re Princess Charlize right?” he asked. Tumango sya. And then he leaned and gave her a mind shattering kiss on her little nervous lips. “That’s to seal the deal…and remember my name…it’s Prince Rafael and I will be back…wait for me” he said and went away.
She fell inlove at 10, for years she had waited for the moment that her prince would come back for her.
And when he did come back, it was only to prove to her that fairytales are for the ignorant. She had loved and lost at 18 when her prince ran away from her and his responsibility. Rafael taught her that there is no such thing as Happily Ever After but only… Happily Never After for her.
